(More customer reviews)This is my first Casio-brand camera, and it's not bad for the price.
First off, I like the flexibility in being able to charge the battery (NP-80) in the included charger, or just hooked up to my PC through the USB port. Battery life is OK, almost 200 shots from a full charge.
Build quality: I've seen a lot worse on more expensive cameras. Yes, it's plastic, most cameras are. The door on the bottom that contains the SD card, battery, and USB port doesn't seem as fragile as most at this price point. The flash is located towards the middle of the camera body, so you are less likely to accidentally cover it with your finger.
The camera comes with a small amount of built-in memory, so pick up an SD card, too. I recommend getting at LEAST a 4 GB SDHC memory card, and at LEAST a Class 6 rating if you plan on doing videos. Personally, I am using an 8 GB Class 10 SDHC card in my camera.
The LCD screen doesn't have a lot of glare, so it's easier to view in the sun. The buttons on the back of the camera are simple and easy to figure out without reading the manual (unless this is your first-ever digital camera).
This camera has a dedicated movie button on the back upper-right corner, so you don't have to toggle through a menu to change from taking a photo to making a video. I love cameras that have this feature as it cuts down on missing a great shot or getting that perfect video.
Speaking of movies/videos, this camera is NOT an HD camera, but you do get the option of making your video in 16:9 ratio widescreen format, and it looks fairly decent (30 frames per second). You can also set up the Best Shot feature during movies also. "Best Shot" is the same as scene mode on other cameras, but this is different in that the "Best Shot" can also be set for movies. I've never seen this in any other camera until I got this one.
There is also a "Best Shot" just for YouTube movies. You are limited to 10 minutes of recording time with this, but I think it compresses the file so there is a shorter upload time to YouTube.
Also regarding focusing during movies: This camera will not zoom optically during recording, you would have to set the optical zoom before you press the movie button. You can "digitally" zoom during a movie, however, digital is not good quality.
On photos, you can set the Auto Focus feature to "tracking" - this allows the focus to follow your subject if it is moving, and is specifically great for focusing on pets and children, so you can get a non-blurry shot.
This camera also has CCD sensor-shake image stabilization, which is better than digital stabilization, and is normally not even available on a really cheap camera.
For those of you who want the time/date shown on the photo, this camera has this option - can be turned on or off in the menu.
I recommend this camera for a beginner to digital photography because of the Easy Shot mode, a child of any age, someone who loves to upload movies to YouTube, or for anyone that wants a cheap camera to toss in your bag for that unexpected photo opportunity you may miss otherwise. I hope if you toss it in your bag you have it in a case.
I don't recommend this camera for anyone wanting to shoot in low light situations like dimly lit restaurants. It's horrible for that - blurry and grainy w/no flash, and with the flash there is the glare of the flash. But if you are looking for great outdoor shots, or normal indoor shots with flash, and YouTube videos, this camera is almost perfect.
